Mark Cueto has backed the new signings of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the Sale Sharks to make a positive impact in the side’s run in the Premiership this season and believes that their addition to the squad will help the club avoid another scrap to remain in the top tier of English professional rugby this season.
The Sharks have been very busy this transfer window and have splashed the cash on players like Tom Arscott, Jonathan Mills, Kiril Kulemin and Phil MacKenzie from the relegated London Welsh as well as back row Michael Paterson from Cardiff this close season, and these signings are expected to temper the loss the British and Irish Lions second row player Richie Gray to Castres.
And although the new signings made by the club are not household names by any means across the country, the former England wing player Cueto believes they will have a huge impact in the fortunes of Sale Sharks this season. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Cueto stated that last summer; the club had a lot of household names unlike this year with the new signings but mentioned that all the players that have come in are respected names in the rugby world.
He mentioned that the club is one of the biggest in English rugby and went back to the times when sale was hugely successful and had plenty of star names before mentioning that when they joined, not many had heard of them but they came into their own at the club and brought success.
Cueto mentioned that Sale Sharks has previously signed many big name players over the years and sometimes, these names haven’t been the best signings and maybe, it will be a welcome change to give the young unheralded players the chance to shine.
